From new high ropes, theme nights, and say so, it’s not fair to have a number one favorite but, maybe Floating Islands would be mine. I tried to explain THE PLANS for “islands high adventure” to my dad over the phone but he didn’t understand. When he saw you in action this summer, climbing, jumping, trusting…He said, “Wow! I wish I was 13 years old again.” He was proud that DCC continues to help campers learn on their own what it means to trust, trust God. The vision that was cast in 1996 continues to grow hear and I thank God for that. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established.” This has proven true for Deer Creek Camp. We continue to watch His plan unfold every year as we commit our work to Him and Him alone.
We had lots of fun this summer at our incredible theme nights, Fiesta and Rodeo Roundup! When the Piñata broke during the Fiesta, I saw campers scrambling for candy to give away to a friend, what a great example of being “THIRD”. It was so much fun to see all the cowboy boots and hats during the western party night when the world champion “Roper” came. I can still see the look on Jonathan Inman’s face when he was lassoed, it makes me laugh every time.
One of my biggest joys every summer is hearing campers at “Say-So”. This summer I heard a camper stand at “Say-So” and describe the difference in DCC counselors because they are “real”. I pray that all could find a few “real” relationship in their life as that is what God has commanded for this world.
