What is our attitude like on a daily basis? Do we have an attitude that is Christ-like? In Matthew 5, Jesus gives His sermon on the mount. During this time He presents the beatitudes, the attitude that we are to have as believers. I think one of the hardest beatitudes to read is Matthew 5:10 which says, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Sometimes it is hard to feel blessed when we are being persecuted, but then we think about why we are being persecuted. As believers, as Christians, it can be difficult to proclaim His name amongst our friends or co-workers in pure fear that we will be made fun of or criticized or maybe it’s because we are afraid they’ll see that our actions do not match our beliefs. Jesus tells us that we are blessed when we are persecuted for His sake. Sharing His word and carrying His name is what we are called to do. If we aren’t doing this, how can we say that we are Christ-followers? Do not fear to be His disciple, for He also told us “whoever loses their live for my sake will find it”. We have to give our lives to Christ and have faith that His words are true and ours will be the kingdom of heaven.
