The baby book of the heart (Luke 2:19)

Cold, clear, and early “BearBucks” coffee morning.  The faster pace of DCC Ranch Guests for the last two weeks has subsided a bit and I take time to ponder and reflect.

Reflections, open the memory book of the heart. So Pam and I are taking time to look through the baby books and old photo albums that kindle the memories of the last 4.2 decades. They help tell the stories.

I wonder how Mary might have told Luke the stories of Jesus’ birth day - the beginning with Shepherds at watch. Would Mary have done like most mothers do today by starting a baby book?  Lk 2:19 - Mary "treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart." Mary was treasuring carefully, “pondering”, and reflecting. These were the memories of her baby, her son, His Majesty.

Imagine for a moment what it was like when Dr. Luke interviewed her forty years later for this Gospel. He knew the right questions to ask Mary. She is the source for this passage. I can hear her taking out the baby book and treasuring memories walking Dr. Luke through each page.

What questions would you have asked if you were Luke? It will not be an invasion of privacy when we get to interview Mary personally. And she will answer in the joy of a new mother’s precious heart, telling the stories of her family.

Ponder your treasures.  What are you storing in the memory cells of your heart? What Christ-Following stories have been added this year? These compelling memories are the way Christ settles down and make Himself at home in your heart.

By reflecting and pondering as Mary did, you are able to

May the real gift of Christ-Memories fill you heart.

Would you share one of those compelling stories with me this season?

Merry Christmas.
