Have Questions, Parents?

We've got you covered. Sending a child to camp for the first time can be an intimidating process. Here at DCC we want to make it as easy as possible. Caring for your children as if they were our own is a tradition that we have taken seriously for over 20 years. That's the DCC Promise.

Counselor Staff

Our 48 counselors are recruited from over 20 different Colleges and Universities across the nation. We receive dozens of applications each year, allowing us to be confident that we are hiring the best of the best. Comprehensive background checks and thoroughly reviewed personal references are an important part of our hiring practices. In addition, maintaining a 1:4 staff to camper ratio gives each camper the special attention that they deserve. Two weeks of mandatory training for all staff helps us create an excellent team of committed, Christian mentors that truly make camp special!

Activity Rotations

Cabins rotate together through a series of high ropes and low ropes initiatives, as well as team building activities that we feel are age appropriate. Teaching our campers realistic goal setting equips them to make a difference in their families, schools, and communities. Some of our high ropes elements include our 40 ft. rock wall, vertical playground, tandem zip-line, Leap of faith, and our "Screamin' Team Swing". Daily activities are usually followed by a splash in our Jr. Olympic-Sized swimming pool.

Bear Tribe Competition

One of the most beloved aspects of our Deer Creek Camp traditions is our "Bear Competitions". In Bear Comp, Campers are “initiated” into one of four Bear Tribes when they come to Camp for the first time. Boys become either Polar or Grizzly Bears and girls become either Sugar or Honey Bears. Once they are on their tribe they are in it for life!  Campers participate daily in friendly competitions, and earn points for their tribe not only through their athletic ability, but also through showing incredible tribe spirit, sportsmanship, and teamwork. The competition culminates with the AMAZING RACE every Friday, and all-camp relay race that decides the winner for the week! Ultimately, Bear Comp exists to teach all our Campers that we are on one team, and that's God's Team.

We know you may have even more questions!

Specialty Classes

Campers participate in two specialty classes every day, which help them develop existing skills and sometimes even learn brand new ones! Specialties for this summer include basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, photography, drama, swimming, water aerobics, outdoor wilderness, guitar (guitars not provided), wood shop, and arts & crafts.

Medical Professionals

Every week we have an elite medical staff that consists of mom and dad volunteers who are medical professionals. Bandera/Medina EMS is readily available in the unlikely event of an incident. Any medicine your child takes regularly is dispensed by these professionals daily.

Meal Menu

Menus are kid friendly and salad bars are available at lunch and dinner meals. Non-sugar drinks are served at each meal with milk and juice provided for breakfast. Peanut butter and jelly is always available as a back up measure. Fresh fruit is also available at all times. Alma will be glad to accommodate any special dietary need your child may have.

Parent Information Packets

Registered summer camp families will receive information packets in the spring with packing lists, medical forms, closing ceremony instructions, detailed maps, and theme night information.

Beautiful Texas Hill Country Location

Camp is located in the Texas Hill Country, along the banks of the Medina River with many acres of playing fields and fun.  Drive time from San Antonio is about one hour and fifteen minutes and a little more than two hours from Austin. Click here to see our Location Page!

Summer Temperatures

Summer temperatures are about 5 degrees cooler than San Antonio. Special consideration is given to hydrate campers and to keep plenty of sunscreen and water available during the summer.

“Each year my daughter attends camp, and I see that her empathy towards others grows significantly, and she returns a more joyful person. She also becomes more self-confidant with every passing summer!”
