End of Training, A Special Birthday, and Opening Day!

Over the weekend we celebrated the birthday of the girls COR Team Manager, Rachel Mazurek.  She got a birthday present early when she was able to be one of the first to try out the new high element with Travis Hanson.  Rachel was a rock star on the Floating Islands as we knew she would be.  Rachel got another birthday present on Sunday when her COR Team girls showed up ready to help get opening day set up.  The wonderful COR Team made delicious sno-cones and helped make sure everyone’s luggage got to the cabins.  We would be lost without them and their amazing leaders, Travis and Rachel.

It was a busy weekend in the Texas Hill Country as we prepared for opening day of Summer 2011 here at Deer Creek Camp!   With the staff finishing traning, they were already itching for campers to arrive last Thursday.  We opened the gates at 3:30pm yesterday and eagerly greeted a line of cars that had already formed!  What an exciting day for all of our staff!  The campers had a great first night at camp!  Everything ran so smoothly!  The campers enjoyed a wonderful hamburger dinner and were later dancing and singing to our theme song for the summer awaiting Bear Tribe initiation.  The night ended with the cross talk given by our COR Teamers.  What a perfect way to end the first night at camp, learning about what it means to be 3rd putting God first, the other guy second, and ourselves third.  We are looking forward to a great week!
