Laura and Paul Dixon know how to draw a crowd. They own and operate Paradise Canyon, a beautiful camp ground along the lower Medina River. Deer Creek used Paradise Canyon for the weekend camping trips several years back. However, this is not where our relationship with the Dixons formed. Laura Dixon went to school with Tobin Behling, Mama and Papa Bear’s son.
Three out of the four children in the family have been coming to camp since 2013. A couple of months ago we held our annual Bear Jamboree at a San Antonio pizza joint and the Dixon’s not only brought their kids but 6 of their closest friends as well. At the Jamboree we introduced our new X-Stream Swim Camp which hooked the oldest Dixon, Abigail. The Dixon’s have been long time supporters and ambassadors, telling their friends and patrons of Paradise Canyon all about Deer Creek Camp. “We are ambassadors for Deer Creek because of the steadfast heart and character Jim and Pam invest in their staff and campers of all ages,” Laura said.
Explaining Deer Creek to someone who has never been to camp can be a challenge, so sometimes it’s easier to show them. “Nathanael said to him, ‘Can anything good come out of Nazareth?’ Philip said to him, ‘Come and see.’” John 1:46. If you can’t host a party, then bring your group out to one of our Bear Jamborees where they can get a glimpse of what we have to offer.
