Today at Jump Start we taught about Choices

Because the initial battle for my soul has already been won by God 2000 years ago it has become a done deal in my life.  There are many stories of fought battles over unbelief that were won in my life with the help of God.  Now the battles have moves to secure the abundant life God has already given me.

It is tempting to feel safe and secure in what God has done in our lives and to forget that we must continue to fight to gain the life he wants for us.  Now that I have chosen Christ my choice aren’t as important any more.  Joshua knew about that temptation to want to relax our stand for God. And he warned Israel to stay focused. Joshua presented Israel with a bold choice. And it’s a choice we are asked to make every day: choose God or choose other gods.

At DCC we teach the Choices have Consequences. The choice we make is played out in the hundreds of decisions we make on a daily basis. Those decisions determine the destiny of our stated priorities. And they ultimately determine which direction our lives will go. God give us the freedom to choose: whom will you serve?

“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve… But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:15

Having campers here this week from the archdiocese of Corpus Christi has been a blast! We have mass everyday and the voices singing along during Team Meeting are louder than the music. It is truly a blessing to see God work through these campers lives and hear their stories. We may not all be the same denomination, but we all serve one King.

What a beautiful and eventful day it was at camp! The sun was shining and the clouds cast enough shadows to keep camp cool. The theme of the day was Crazy Sock Day so we really enjoyed seeing everyone’s socks of choice. In Bible Study we learned what sin is (Self Indulgent Nature).

At Jump Start, Papa Bear taught “I Am Responsible” and how we must take responsibility for the things we do or are asked to do.

In Bear Comp, all tribes played their hearts out and exuded tribe spirit. Everyone had a blast! The Honeys and Polars have the lead, but let’s see if the Sugars and Grizzlys can pull ahead in the next few days!

The photography lesson today was still life. They learned how to take photos of still objects before moving on to action photos. Woodshop progressed further on their birdhouses.

For Activity rotation Hedgehog Home, Telluride Trail, and Bill’s Bunk did the Team Swing together. The girls of Ladies Lodge and Trinity’s Treehouse climbed the rockwall and rode the zipline. Sarita Casita and Kennedy’s Korner conquered their fears on the Leap of Faith before heading to the river with the rest of Girls Camp. Boy’s Camp had swim time at the pool where they had a blast wrestling, throwing balls, and jumping off the diving board.

After shower time we got ready to go Beyond the Board. Dressed as Sorry pieces, Chess pieces, and Mario characters, campers poured into the Great Hall to enjoy Alma’s homemade Lasagna. After dinner we were informed that someone had stolen the river! Mrs. PacMan, Link, and a couple characters from Super Smash Bros. appeared in life size and claimed they were now in control! We had to play life size versions of foozball, hungry hungry hippos, Battleship, and Duck Hunter in order to collect clues to figure out which character stole the river! It was Master Chief from Halo! He stole it with a giant Turkey Baster! Once we got that squared away and he returned our river, we danced the night away in the Barn Swing…or at least until Team Meeting.

Karl delved deeper into the meaning of sin tonight at Team Meeting. He emphasized the word “indulgence”. When we sin, we indulge ourselves in wrong decisions. It’s like we stuck our hands in black paint and every time we sinned or encouraged a friend to sin, the black paint spread. We indulged our hands in that black paint. But there is hope. There is one person that can clean us of that black paint – of our sins. We will find out who that is and how he does that tomorrow.

The morning was nice! It was cool and there was a little breeze. It warmed up during Bible Study. At Jump Start, Papa Bear taught us that attitude is contagious and that we must have an attitude of gratitude.  Bear Competition followed, where we played Bear Brawl, Arena Soccer, and Mat Ball. After Bear Comp. we separated into specialties. The Outdoor Wilderness group learned how to tie Bowline knots and the girls in Arts and Crafts wove baskets and made wooden signs.  For lunch Alma cooked up some tater tots with chicken nuggets and fruit cups. After campers received their mail, they headed back to their cabin for some well deserved FOB.

The theme of the day was Flash Mob Monday and most of the cabins partook in it. It was awesome!

For Sugar Shack we had Ice Cream cups and Fruit Pops. Next it was off to Activities! After Activities we cooled off in the river. Some campers floated on tubes while others kayaked and canoed. Before dinner we retired the colors and sang our national anthem.  We enjoyed Alma’s famous King Ranch Chicken!

We sang our praises loud during Team Meeting. Papa Bear shared with us the reassurance that Jesus does not judge us, but loves us for our hearts and wants a relationship with us.

After Team Meeting the campers thought they were headed to go take showers but in fact they were headed to a surprise pool party!! We blasted the music and blew up the inflatables! It was seriously a rockin’ party!

We are excited to see what the Lord has in store for us tomorrow!

Finally, camp is here and it could not come any sooner! The campers poured in the gates excited to see their friends and to get their bunks. Running hugs, chest bumps, and high fives were shared as camp friends and families were reunited. Settled in their cabins, the campers played all camp games led by Karl and Mason. Eric taught us the pool rules and we then proceeded to the swim test. A dip in the pool felt nice but afterwards we were hungry and ready for some camp food. We had delicious chopped beef sandwiches down by the river and got to know our cabinmates.

As the sun set and the lightning bugs speckled the air, the campers were indoctrinated to another summer of camp at Spikes Hollow through our wacky rules skit with DJ Kevy Kev and Bear Tribe Initiation. Papa Bear wrapped up the night telling the campers about the summer theme, Press On!!.

Today’s theme is Twin Day so the we showed up to Breakfast matching at least one other person. We enjoyed some of Alma’s delicious pancakes and bacon!

After Bible Study we said see ya later to the women of Kennedy’s Korner and Sarita Casita as they went out to Pecan Valley for Trip with Austin and BK. We are excited to hear all their Trip stories when they return on Friday.

Papa Bear taught us that attitude is contagious and a predictor of your behavior at Jump Start today. In Bear Comp the Honeys & Polars still hold the lead but Grizzlys & Sugars still have a chance to pull ahead. We are all looking forward to the Amazing Race and the new additions to the Gauntlet.

On Wednesday’s we learn about salvation. We learned that Jesus takes our burdens from us but we have to hand them to Him. For the Gospel Drama we focused on the disciple Thomas and how refuses to believe that Jesus is alive unless he can touch the wounds in his hands and side. We can all relate to Thomas at some point in our life. We may have questioned God’s power or doubted his presence in our life but God never gives up on us, just like he did not give up on Thomas. Jesus says to Thomas, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)

What a beautiful and eventful day it was at camp! The sun was shining and the wind was nice. We enjoyed some hot and fresh French Toast with Papa Bear’s eggs for breakfast. In Bible Study we learned what sin is (Self Indulgent Nature).

At Jump Start Karl taught us about the 4:29 principle. This comes from Ephesians 4:29 “Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.”

COOOOOOOMMMMPETITION! From Bear Comp. yesterday the Honeys & Polars were ahead but the Grizzlys and Sugars could come out on top tomorrow. All tribes played their hearts out and exuded tribe spirit.

In Arts and Crafts the girls made beads out of scrapbooking paper and glue. In Drama the campers learned how to read body language.

For Activity rotation T-T, Telluride Trail, and St. Elmo worked on their tans and had a blast at the Team Swing!  Boy’s Camp had swim time at the pool and the girls floated and canoed in the river.

At dinner we had some of Alma’s Spaghetti with meat sauce, corn, and breadsticks! After dinner we made it just in time to catch our flight on Deer Creek Airlines headed for Hawaii. It was smooth flying until we got caught in a terrible tropical storm and had to crash land on an uncharted island! The native people of the island helped us survive by teaching us to make a fire, spear fish, and scavenge for food. To celebrate our newly aquired survival skills the natives threw us an Island Pool Party complete with fruit kabobs and breezy music.

At Team Meeting, Papa Bear delved deeper into the meaning of sin. He emphasized the word “indulgence”. When we sin, we indulge ourselves in wrong decisions. It’s like we stuck our hands in black paint and every time we sinned or encouraged a friend to sin, the black paint spread. We indulged our hands in that black paint. But there is hope. Today we welcomed AC 3 and SBTW 2 campers! The campers poured in the gates excited to see their friends and to get their bunks. Running hugs, chest bumps, and high fives were shared as camp friends and families were reunited. Settled in their cabins, the campers played all camp games led by Shelby and Mason. Eric taught us the pool rules and we then proceeded to the swim test. A dip in the pool felt nice but afterwards we were hungry and ready for some camp food. We had delicious hamburgers in the Deer Dome because it began to rain a little bit. But it was a wonderful time and the campers had the opportunity to get to know their cabinmates a little better.

As the sun set and the lightning bugs speckled the air, the rain had stopped but brought a very cooling breeze. It was a perfect summer night! The campers were indoctrinated to another summer of camp at Spikes Hollow through our wacky rules skit with DJ Kevy Kev and Bear Tribe Initiation. Papa Bear wrapped up the night telling the campers about the summer theme, Press On!!.

What a beautiful and eventful day it was at camp! The sun was shining and the clouds cast enough shadows to keep camp cool with a little rain. The theme of the day was Flash Mob so we really enjoyed seeing everyone bust a move. In Bible Study we learned what sin is (Self Indulgent Nature).

At Jump Start Chloe Sutton taught us that Attitude is Contagious and predictor of your performance. She explained how having a good attitude when competing in her swim races helped her succeed.

In Bear Comp, all tribes played their hearts out and exuded tribe spirit. Pin Pounder is our new Bear Comp games this summer. Everyone had a blast! Then it was off to Specialties!

The photography lesson today was still life. They learned how to take photos of still objects before moving on to action photos. Woodshop progressed further on their bathouses.

For Activity rotation Trinity’s Treehouse and Telluride Trail worked together at the GAP Wall. Sarita Casita, Ladies Lodge, and Kimmy’s Kabin did the Team Swing together before heading to the river with the rest of Girls Camp. Boy’s Camp had swim time at the pool where they had a blast wrestling, throwing balls, and jumping off the diving board.

After shower time we got ready to go Beyond the Board. We had to play life size versions of checkers, foozball, hungry hungry hippos, Battleship, and Duck Hunter in order to collect clues to figure out which character stole the river! Once we identified the culprit we danced the night away in the Barn Swing…or at least until Team Meeting.

We have more campers!  We welcomed home returning campers and new campers for AC 2. The campers poured in the gates excited to see their friends and to get their bunks. After the campers settled in their cabins and were reunited with their friends, we played all camp games led by Mason and Tricia in the Deer Dome. We have a special guest at camp this week. Chloe Sutton, a two time Olympian and our X-Stream Swim Camp Coach, received a big Deer Creek Camp welcome! Afterward, we all headed to the pool to take the swim test. The swim test was awesome and we had to have a quick pool party to start this week off right!

After swimming we retired the colors to our national anthem. Burgers by the river were delicious as always and hit the spot after the rush of excitement upon arrival. The campers were indoctrinated to another summer of camp at Spikes Hollow through our wacky rules skit and Bear Tribe Initiation. Papa Bear wrapped up the night telling the campers about the summer theme, Press On!!.

The theme for tomorrow is Crazy Hair Day. We are excited to see what sweet hair dos we get tomorrow! I anticipate a couple mohawks.
