SOWERS join us for labor and love

For those who don’t know about SOWERS, they are couples who have retired from their previous occupations and now serve as volunteers for three-week terms at various camps and churches around the country. Each couple brings their own RV accommodation and takes part in various maintenance and improvement projects all over camp.

For many years, SOWERS has been a blessing to Deer Creek Camp. They contribute their time to maintenance and organization projects. In addition, they commit to praying over their time here and for God's will to be done.

With the help of SOWERS, Deer Creek saves tens of thousands of dollars every year and can complete projects that we wouldn't have been able to complete otherwise.

Our first SOWER group of three couples arrived in October. The women dove right into a much-needed deep cleaning of nearly every area of camp. They also prepared and froze enough fresh dough for 1,500 cookies! Our staff will be able to easily bake and serve delicious homemade cookies to our campers next summer.

Next summer, campers will eat delicious homemade cookies thanks to the SOWERS.

The men built a brand-new covered field structure from the ground up—a superior replacement of the tent shade coverings we used in the past. The tents didn’t provide enough space coverage for the zip line dismount area, and due to high winds and inclement weather, they simply didn’t survive very long. This sturdy multi-use structure can also serve as a covered meeting area for Bible studies and group gatherings.

Having an older generation like the SOWERS come alongside to serve with us, pray for us, and encourage us as we are raising our own families and working here at camp is truly a blessing. These are individuals who model the I’M THIRD principle that we teach here at camp—God first, others second, I’m third.

Two couples enjoyed their October term and asked to stay on for next month, so we’ll have five couples here for the November term. Please pray for continued safety and unity as we work together for this camp to be used to bring glory to God.

SOWERS join us for labor and love

The SOWERS ministry has had a huge impact on Deer Creek. This camp was built with their hands, not only in jobs completed, but in relationships formed and time spent with fellow believers.
